Monument record LWT 090 - World War II features, including barbed wire obstructions, a barrage balloon site and bomb craters.

A number of World War II defensive features can be seen on aerial photographs of 1941 (S1) of Lowestoft Denes. A number of stretches of barbed wire obstruction criss-cross the area. Close to the beach, two or three trench systems, possibly practice trenches, can be seen, one of which has an associated pillbox. A stretch of minefield over 150m long can also be seen close to the beach, and 2 or 3 bomb craters are visible slightly further inland. These features can also be seen on 1944 aerial photographs (S2,S3), although additional features can also be seen. Gun emplacements are visible, and a number of military buildings, possibly associated with the barrage balloon site at the north end of the Denes (around TM552945), have been built.
