Full Description
A number of lengths of barbed wire obstruction can be seen behind the sea wall on Lowestoft Denes on 1941 aerial photographs (S1,S2). There are 2 stretches of barbed wire running parallel to the coast, with a number of short sections heading inland. There does not appear to be any particular feature that the barbed wire obstruction is enclosing. On aerial photographs of 1945 (S3), 2 structures and 2 trenches can be seen behind the barbed wire obstruction. The structures appear to be long, low rectangular features - possibly bunkers or shelters of some description - it is difficult to tell from the photographs. One structure has an associated trench with it, while there is another trench-type feature some 80m north of these structures. The more southerly trench appears on the 1941 photographs, and on an earlier photograph from 1940 (S4), but the barbed wire does not appear on this photo.
