Full Description
April 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The site of earthworks relating to medieval to post medieval date enclosures, a possible platform and field boundaries to either side of ‘High House’ – a substantial house of at least post medieval date – are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The earthworks within the eastern part of the site are well defined in the 1940s and are located within an area of grass and mature trees, possibly a former area of parkland associated with High House. A possible platform may be present within the square enclosure to the east of the site and this may relate to either a park feature or potentially a former building platform. Although this platform was not included in the mapping as it was not clear whether the interior of the ditches was definitely raised above ground surface. These earthworks get overlain by World War Two structures and defences in the 1940s (LWT 045, OUL 016).
