Full Description
Linear cropmarks (S1).
January 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The cropmarks of an undated, but potentially medieval date, enclosure and associated field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S2-S4) to the south of St Bartholomew’s Church (COR 019). The site is centred on TM 5388 9777. The relationship of the enclosure with the surrounding landscape and the church would suggest that it is likely to be medieval (or late Saxon/medieval to post medieval) in date, however the nearby presence of Roman finds must also be noted (COR 004, COR 045).
The site has been extended to include some further cropmarks to the southwest, some of which are also likely to medieval to post medieval in date.
S. Horlock (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 3rd January 2014.
