Full Description

Evidence of flint and mortar foundations on the north-western edge of the standing structure indicating evidence for an earlier masonry church c 11th to 12th century. 9 small pottery sherds were also recovered, which includes several fine greyware sherds including a rim fragment of Late Saxon Thetford-type ware. Sherds of early, high and late medieval date are also present. 2 flint flakes of Neolithic to Bronze Age date and medieval peg tile fragments were also recovered (S1).

Font base was investigated which confirmed that it comprised re-used ashlar blocks plus bricks of Post medieval date with the core of the large base being filled with loose flints (S1).
