Monument record HLY 111 - WWI pillbox with Graffiti, at Pumping Station

WWI pillbox at Pumping Station, Hollesley, in bad condition (S1). Reinforced concrete and steel.
single-storey, circular plan, concrete slightly domed roof, carried on corrugated steel sheets supported by two steel joists, covered with earth. The pillbox is split by two large cracks pre-WW2, and each half is supported by a concrete buttress. An additional embrasure has been cut during WW2 in the elevation facing the road exit from the beach, and one original embrasure has been reduced to receive a 'Turnbull' mounting.

Pumping Station, Oxley Marshes, Shingle Street. First World War circular pillbox, with contemporary graffiti incised in the concrete - '....house for tramps. 1918' (S2).
