Full Description
Excavation and monitoring work in advance of the construction of a new Consolidated Communications Building at RAF Lakenheath has identified some Bronze Age pits and an urned cremation dating to 1380BC-1100BC (GU-13845). The pits were sealed by a layer of soil which contained Bronze Age pottery, one sherd of early Iron Age pottery and Six Bronze Age and two earlier flints. The pottery was similar to that recovered from a finds rich soil horizon c. 30m to the NE (S1).
