Full Description
December 1996: Archaeological monitoring of footing trenches of extensions for Gosford House. Features observed include N-S ditch, 1.15m deep and upto 1.5m wide, parallel to street frontage and a narrow and deep (0.4m by 1.2m) single pit (or posthole?) to N of existing house.
None of the fills of the features were modern. The ditch contained a central ash layer and occasional oyster shells and the pit small fragments of red tile, probaby of PMed date. Details in (S1).
