Full Description
Archaeological evaluation in advance of the construction of two new storage buildings and the realignment of an adjacent road revealed further occupation relating to the extensive Roman settlement around Caudle Head mere. A finds rich occupation soil survived in the south of the evaluation area close to site LKH 191 excavated in new heating duct trenches in August 1996. This settlement appeared to continue into the northern area within the existing compound although here the upper soil layers had been truncated by repeated resurfacing and the features identified had much paler fills with few finds. At least one ESax feature was identified in this area and occasional worked prehistoric flints.
Also Rom.
