Full Description

Late 1991: Scatter of Med sherds found in flower beds of listed Grade II school house (circa 1874), following planning application on site (S1). Evaluation (by trial trenching) to follow in January 1992.
January 1992: Trial trenches revealed various features and finds (S2).
Sep - Oct 1993: Excavation suggests human activity in area continuous from Preh to present day. 49 sherds 'IA' pottery associated with 8 attributed to Romano British period, 3 postholes and 1 slot plus a fragment of roof tile. 50 sherds of MSax pottery, postholes, part of rectangular building - 2 roomed hearths. 13 features included 2 slots, 1 pit, 10 postholes (Ipswich ware, chalk spindle whorl + iron object). 14 LSax sherds of pottery, 4 Med sherds, ?Med features associated with old school complex, some postholes and shallow scoops.
