Description

Monitoring the footings of a rear extension to shop fronting the north side of Market Hill, Sudbury. Natural recorded 27/5/94 at 90cm below present yard level; comprising natural sand and gravel. No intrusive features were seen cutting the natural subsoil. Fill above natural comprised a uniform dark brown sandy clay loam with brick and tile fragments. No variation up to just below yard level. Brick lined well/ soakaway recorded in earlier visit - void, later filled with aggregate. 1 sherd of Thetford ware with decorative thumb strip + 1 sherd of courseware recovered from soil in skip.
