Description
This siste was visited on 30th and 31th October by SCCAS. The footings trenches were examined for archaeological features and spoil observed for finds. Trenches were c.1m in depth, a sample section drawing was made of the deposits in two places and the depth of the natural subsoil (yellow crag) was recorded across the site.
Below the turf line, a layer of homogeneous mid brown sitly sand (subsoil) was revealed across the whole site. This varied in thickness between 60-100cms and directly overlay soft yellow crag sand. Although the footing trenches revealed evidence for recent activity (drain runs, a soakaway pit and some concrete and brick rubble) no features of any antiquity were observed cutting either this layer or the underlying crag sand and no finds of archaeological interest were recovered from the excavation or excavated spoil.
No evidence for any form of previous activity was detected.
