Description

Excavation was carried out following a series of programmes of archaeological investigation. The areas subject to excavation were stripped of overburden using a mechanical excavated. Topsoil and subsoil were mechanically excavated under supervision until the underlying natural drift deposits were visible at an average depth of 0.35m or more. The exposed surfaces were cleaned by hand and further excavation was undertaken manually. Roman and Iron age settlement features were identified during the excavation (S1).
