A trial trench evaluation was carried out prior to a proposal to redevelop the site. A total of seven trenches were excavated. The trenches measured between 12m and 31m in length and 1.8m in width. The trenching covered some 5% of the total area of the site. The site had been the subject of relatively intensive modern activity relating to works on the adjacent railway line and two trenches on the southern end of the site found extensive modern truncations. No finds or features of archaeological interest were identified (S1).
