Description
Pre-Construct Archaeological Services Ltd (PCAS) carried out an archaeological evaluation on land adjacent to the Mendlesham Industrial Estate, Wetheringsett-cum-Brockford, Suffolk. The evaluation consisted of a programme of field-walking and metal-detecting, followed by a 5 % of total surface area trial trench evaluation, comprising a total of 37 trenches each measuring 25m by 1.8m. No artefacts of archaeological significance were observed during the field-walking or metal-detecting survey. Only former field boundary ditches and modern features were recorded in the trenches and a small amount of medieval and post-medieval pottery and metal work was recovered as surface finds. The largely negative results from the relatively extensive examination of the site, which also includes a desk-based assessment, would suggest further investigation is unlikely to yield any more significant information.
